The first edition of BSides Kerala, a global cybersecurity conference, took place recently, bringing together security leaders, researchers and professionals. The event marked the 1,075th BSides conference worldwide and the first-ever in the state.
The two-day gathering provided a platform for technical discussions, hands-on learning and networking, with more than 45 speakers, 18 cybersecurity communities and industry partners in attendance.
The conference was inaugurated by Hon’ble Justice Devan Ramachandran, who highlighted the right to privacy as a constitutional obligation. Senior law enforcement officials, including Manoj Abraham, IPS (ADGP, Law & Order) and Ankit Asokan; IPS (SP, Cyber Operations), addressed key cybersecurity challenges.
Abraham stressed the importance of public-private collaboration in tackling cyber threats, while Asokan emphasised the growing impact of cybersecurity on individuals and the need for cost-effective security solutions.
BSides Kerala featured a range of discussions, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) security, supply chain security, cloud security challenges, data privacy laws and strategies for managing cybersecurity risks. Workshops and live hacking demonstrations provided hands-on experience in areas such as phishing scams, mobile application security and Internet of Things (IoT) exploit detection.
The conference concluded with discussions on the importance of community-driven cybersecurity initiatives in strengthening Kerala’s digital security framework. Experts also underscored the need for continuous collaboration and skill development to address emerging cyber threats.
