In a recent move to enhance customer security, Airtel Payments Bank has successfully integrated its systems with the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP)-Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System (CFCFRMS) of the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C). This integration, facilitated through the Ministry of Home Affairs’ API, positions Airtel Payments Bank among the first four banks—and the first payments bank in India—to deploy this advanced fraud mitigation system.
The integration automates the bank’s response to cyber fraud complaints reported via the I4C’s National Cybercrime Reporting Portal and the 1930 helpline. With real-time information sharing between Airtel Payments Bank, I4C and the Ministry of Home Affairs, the system ensures faster and more efficient processing of cybercrime cases. It allows the bank to take immediate action on reported fraudulent transactions, preventing further misuse of affected accounts. Key details such as complaint numbers, mobile numbers, account numbers, transaction references and fraud amounts are instantly relayed to authorities for swift intervention.
Ganesh Ananthanarayanan, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Airtel Payments Bank, emphasised the bank’s commitment to customer protection. He stated, “At Airtel Payments Bank, customer safety is at the heart of everything we do. Our integration with I4C and the Ministry of Home Affairs not only demonstrates our proactive approach to combating financial frauds but also ensures real-time resolution of fraudulent complaints lodged on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal. This initiative further strengthens our suite of safety solutions designed to protect our customers.”
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), based on inputs from I4C, has issued comprehensive advisories urging banks and financial institutions to enhance fraud mitigation measures. Additionally, the Department of Financial Services (DFS) has mandated all banks to collaborate with the NCRP to curb fraudulent transactions within the digital financial ecosystem. Following the API integration, Airtel Payments Bank and other participating banks have significantly improved their response times, successfully holding crime proceeds within the financial system to prevent further exploitation.
Airtel Payments Bank continues to leverage cutting-edge technology, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), to detect and mitigate fraud. This integration with I4C aligns with its broader strategy to adopt proactive, technology-driven solutions in the fight against financial fraud in an increasingly digital economy.
