The Indian government has appointed Tuhin Kanta Pandey as the new Finance Secretary. A 1987 batch IAS officer from the Odisha cadre, Pandey holds experience as Secretary of the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM). He has been instrumental in overseeing the government’s key disinvestment initiatives.
Pandey’s appointment comes after former Finance Secretary TV Somanathan’s elevation to Cabinet Secretary, marking a broader reshuffle within the Finance Ministry.
Other recent shifts include Manoj Govil’s appointment as Expenditure Secretary and Nagaraju Maddirala stepping in as Secretary of the Department of Financial Services, replacing Vivek Joshi. These appointments reflect a strategic overhaul in the ministry following Somanathan’s transition, ensuring that the ministry is equipped with experienced leadership during a crucial economic period.
Pandey’s legacy in managing government assets and driving disinvestment programmes places him in a strong position to steer India’s financial policies. His leadership is expected to play a critical role in shaping India’s economic future amid global uncertainties and domestic challenges.
