The Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB) has recommended Challa Sreenivasulu (CS) Setty to succeed Dinesh Kumar Khara as the Chairman of the State Bank of India (SBI). Setty, currently overseeing international banking, global markets and technology at SBI, was chosen by FSIB after interviewing three candidates on 29th June, 2024.
If appointed, Setty will become the 27th chairman of SBI.
Khara, who turns 63 on 28th August, 2024 — the upper age limit for the SBI Chairman’s position — is set to retire.
Setty holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, and is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers. He began his career at SBI in 1988 as a Probationary Officer. Over his three-decade-long career, he has gained extensive experience in corporate credit, retail banking, digital banking and international banking.
He has held key positions at SBI, including Deputy Managing Director of the Stressed Assets Resolution Group, Chief General Manager (CGM) and General Manager (GM) in the Corporate Accounts Group, Deputy General Manager in the commercial branch, Indore, and VP and Head (Syndications) at SBI’s New York Branch.
He was appointed to the Board of SBI as Managing Director (MD) in January 2020, and currently oversees international banking, global markets and technology division.
