The University Grants Commission’s draft rules to allow foreign universities to set up campuses in India may attract several international schools, although top institutes like Harvard Business School and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) are unlikely to open branches here. “We have no plans to set up a campus in India. We don’t have campuses anywhere else other than Boston,” a Harvard Business School spokesperson said.
MIT’s associate provost for international activities, Richard Lester, said, “As a long-standing practice, MIT does not establish branch campuses and has no plans to do so in India or elsewhere.” He said the tech school’s approach to international engagement is based on collaboration, partnership, and local capacity building. “We prefer the partnership model.”
